Established in 1926, this esteemed public institution was founded by a visionary par excellence, His Grace Mar Thoma Dionysious Metropolitan, who envisioned the transformative power of education far ahead of his time. With unwavering faith, wisdom, and commitment, he laid the foundation of an institution on the sacred Tabor Hills, which has enlightened generations and continues to stand as a beacon of knowledge, values, and service to society.

St. Stephen (1st century), one of the first seven ordained Deacons and the first Martyr of Christianity. His biography and an elaborate apologia by him before Jewish council are recorded in the Book of Acts, chapter 7 (Bible). Though by birth a Hellenistic diaspora Jew, he was brought up by his mother as a true Christian. Justifying the meaning of his name (Stephen=Crown) he was truly a ‘crown’ of the Church. He was a mirror image of Christ in every sense and was a man full offaith, wisdom and of the Holy Spirit. He taught in the Synagogue of the Libertines. He was accused of blasphemy before the Jewish council and was then stoned to death and while dying, he prayed for the pardon of his accusers.
We should be proud of having St. Stephen as our Patron Saint. We should imbibe from him the message of sacrifice, forgiveness and commitment and try to be crowns of the society.
His Grace was Student of Christ Church College in Oxford University during 1937-’39. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, former President of India, was one of his best friends there. Inspired by the noble traditions of western culture and civilization His grace wanted the Mount Tabor to be a more useful centre for the people around. He was consecrated as Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese of the Orthodox Church in 1940 and continued in the same ecclesiastical post for 32 years till his demise on 3rd December 1972. Besides being an ecclesiastical Episcopal leader, he was also a versatile social leader, philanthropist, humanist and educationist. The mortal remains of His Grace were interred in the Mount Tabor monastry chapel. The large number of educational institutions, hospitals and orphanages, in Kerala and Tamilnadu stand as monuments to the service of our founder for the cause of education and social welfare in the country.
